Who is BFC Institute?

BFC Institute is a subsidiary of Building Families and Communities Missions Incorporated. “BFC” is a Nashville, Tennessee - based 501(c) (3) non-profit organization. It has been in existence since 1998. Its mission is to improve the quality of life for dysfunctional families. Since its inception the organization has provided services ranging from youth and family counseling to educational support and training. What is the background of the Facilitator?

Mr. Rueben Y. Dockery, Sr. facilitates the Collaborating Community Efforts of Faith-Based Groups and Government Agencies- Seminar/Workshop Series. Mr. Dockery is a doctoral level researcher and a master level educator. He has over twenty years of experience in the social service field. He is the chief architect of this research-based seminar/workshop series. His occupational experiences include, but are not limited to the supervision of a detention facility, treatment counseling in clinical settings, pastoral administration, serving as a public school educator and community organizing. This seminar and workshop series is driven by his practical knowledge and expertise.

What and how will participants gain from the Seminar/Workshop?

There are four basic learning objectives for this lecture and workshop series. The four learning objectives are as follows:

  1. Deterring of criminal behaviors of youth
  2. Avoidance of social disorder by youth
  3. Fear of crime among citizens


Seminar Contents

This seminar presents a rational lecture on juvenile delinquency, community planning, development and safety in general. During the lecture, participants will be introduced to best practices in responding to juvenile crime within local communities. Local ministers representing at-risk neighborhoods will receive factual information on civic expectations and the basis of law enforcement presence within the community. Together law enforcement officials and citizens will gain a better understanding of how to best encourage pro-social behaviors in the community at large. Additionally, local ministers will learn how to effectively use their facilities to offer youth exposure to appropriate social activities.

Workshop Exercises

Workshop activities are designed to engage local ministers and law enforcement officials in constructive exercises that will produce programmatic models to build strong communities. Working together the ministers and law enforcement officials can reach out to parents and youth to best manage free time of youth in the city. Participants will leave with the tools to create community support measures leading to crime reduction.

Focus of Local Issues

The Collaborating Community Efforts of Faith-Based Groups and Government Agencies Seminar/Workshop Series is designed to travel from city to city. All data reported in needs assessments are commensurate to the issues of each city where the series is being presented. BFC Institute will provide the materials for the presentations. The sponsoring organization is responsible for providing either the funds to acquire the venue or the venue itself, for the seminar lecture and workshop activities. Minimum space requirements are as follows:
  • Adequate space to house a minimum of fifty participants
  • Tables and chairs to accommodate a minimum of fifty participants (five tables and fifty chairs)
  • Suitable electrical outlets for audio-visual equipment
  • Facilities that meets basic safety standards

Seminar Cost

The “seminar lecture” fee for all participants is Twenty dollars ($20.00). This fee is included in the full Seventy-Five dollar ($75.00) “registration package”. Space permitting, individuals only interested in the seminar lecture may register as seminar participants only.

Workshop Cost

The “workshop exercise” fee for all participants is Twenty-five dollars ($25.00). This fee covers print materials and learning tools used in workshop exercises. Attending the seminar lecture is a prerequisite to participating in workshop exercises.

Facilitation Cost

The “facilitation fee” for all participants is Thirty dollars ($30.00). This fee covers traveling expenses, setup expenses etc. Rather attending the seminar lecture only or both the seminar lecture and workshop exercises; this fee is mandatory. Accordingly, seminar lecture participants only, are required to pay a total of fifty dollars ($50.00).

Minimum Attendance

A minimum of fifty participants are required to register before booking for the Collaborating Community Efforts of Faith-Based Groups and Government Agencies Seminar/Workshop Series can be completed. Additionally, any expenses for acquiring the venue must be secured by the sponsoring agency or assessed from participants via additional fees. This fee is to be determined by demand.

Payment Arrangement

A minimum of $1,875.00, plus any additional fees (venue cost) down payment is required upon signing of a contract for the Collaborating Community Efforts of Faith-based Groups and Government Agencies Seminar/Workshop Series. The final balance is due on or before the day of the event.

**Note: the total down payment and final payment is based on the total number of participants: with a minimum of fifty participants per event.
